Beginning Art Quilting

Instructor Gail Wax hosts a series of Art Quilting Workshops that progress in complexity and introduces even the beginning quilter to the world of art quilting. Working from photographs, students learn to study and interpret the image, create patterns, assemble fused fabrics to use like paint and paper in creating images, quilt for both security and imagery, and finish for hanging on the wall. Gail is a professional art quilter, having earned a number of show ribbons in California including a second place at Pacific International Quilt Festival in the garments category, and has been showcased in the PIQF "New Quilts of Northern California" exhibit. She has served as staff and as an instructor at Parkland Parish Quilt Shop and at JoAnn Fabrics since moving to Washington. She is a member of CQA, Contemporary Quilt Associates, a professional group in Seattle.

With more than 30 years of experience as a classroom trainer, Gail promises she will make sure you feel comfortable with learning this new skill and have fun along the way!

Spend the day with Gail Learning all the basics of art quilts. As Gail says you have to make 8 ugly art quilts before you make something worthy of hanging on your wall...so join us and make your make your #1!
Expect to be able to go home with a complete (or nearly complete) art quilt!

We'll be here all day and take a break for lunch. We are within walking distance of several fast food establishments, as well as a phone call away from some great delivery options! We also offer use of our refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven (no fish please).

Before signing up for class, please check your schedule and read our class policy carefully. To be fair to our teachers and other students we must remain firm on our registration and cancellation policies.

  • Cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to class and you will be issued store credit.
  • Our guest teachers reserve the right to cancel 48 hours prior to any class if participation level is below any stated minimum.
  • In the event of inclement weather, classes could have a delayed start time or be rescheduled for another day.
