Beginning Wool Appliqué and Embroidery Class - Flutter

You’ll learn everything from creating your quilt background and appliqué techniques (wool, silk velvet, and cotton) to a wide variety of embroidery stitches and finishing methods. By the end of the class, you’ll have the skills and confidence to complete your project and continue creating your own wool appliqué quilts.
Kits and patterns are available, with options to customize your colorway.
If you've ever wanted to learn how to create an embellished wool appliqué quilt, this is a great way to start. Lily’s Embrace and Flutter are Lisa's two beginner patterns. She will be teaching both patterns simultaneously. You can choose which one you'd like to do.
This class is structured with three full-day sessions scheduled two weeks apart, allowing each student time to practice what they learned in class and be ready to move on to the next step.
Futter is 18” X 18” and made entirely of hand-dyed wool, hand-dyed silk velvet, cotton fabric, silk dupioni, pearl cotton, and silk pearl applique thread. Kit includes the pattern and everything you need to complete the top. Backing, batting, binding, and appliqué thread are not included in the kit. Although a kit is available, you can purchase the pattern only for $20. You can use your own wool and thread, or I can help you put together a custom kit in a different color way.
Kit $140.00 Applique Thread $38.00 Payable to your Instructor the day of class.
What you will learn in each class:
Class One: Sewing the background, making and cutting the pattern pieces, wool appliqué, silk velvet appliqué, cotton appliqué, and making cotton/silk circles with Karen Kay Buckley’s Perfect Big Circles. We will also learn how to sew the border.
Class Two: We will begin embellishing the wool quilt top and learn various embroidery stitches, including Backstitch, Chain Stitch, Straight Stitch, Running Stitch, Couching, Palestrina Stitch, and Bullion Knots.
Class Three: In the final class, we will learn Cast-on Bullion Knots, Eyelet Wheel, and Woven Picot. I will teach you the stitching combinations. We will also discuss basting, quilting, and binding your quilt.
After completing this class and your project, you will feel confident making most wool-embellished quilts.
If you have been sick, or are experiencing symptoms of any kind, we expect you to stay home.
Things evolve, and we make adjustments to practices and procedures. And we are always open to suggestions on how to improve this system.
